Transit. Starter

Postby Davy crocket » Mon Nov 12, 2018 11:15 pm

Hi folks can anyone tell me if there is a fuse protecting the starter relay on a 1995 transit van.there seems to be no power reaching the relay. Davy

Fuse A, (60-Amps FA) is located under the bonnet in the Battery Junction Box. However if this fuse is blown then there will be other electrical items that will also not work. I'd be checking the ignition switch, Start Inhibit switch/relay (if you have an Auto Transmission ) and the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS), if fitted. Hope that helps.

Check if you are getting 12V on Start wire coming from the key switch, which goes to the Starter relay. If that's OK check the output of the starter relay.... Etc.

A 95 should have a relay on the drivers side inner wing of the engine bay. Its common for these to corrode and stop working....

You start with the simplest thing: you take off the starter control wire from the starter, instead you plug in another one about 1 meter long.
Turn off the gear on the gearbox, put the car on the parking brake and connect this connected wire to the + battery.
If the starter turns on and works, then the problem is in the relay or wiring.
If the starter is not working, remove and repair the starter.
If the starter works from an additional wire, but does not work from a key, then remove an additional wire, put in place a regular one.
Find the starter relay and its fuse.
You have been told where to look for them.
Check the fuse visually, take it off several times and put it in place.
This will help to clean its installation contacts from dirt.
Try to start the motor from the key.
Do not start-remove the starter relay.
Usually, the narel and the nest have a pinout of the relay for its installation.
I have never shot this relay and I don’t know for sure, but I think it has four pins or two for switching on the relay and two power for connecting the starter.
Find them and in the slot for these pins insert a curved piece of copper wire without insulation with a thickness of about 1 mm.
If the starter turns on, the problem is in the relay. It will need to be replaced.
It may be the case that the maintenance of the relay does not turn on because the anti-theft system blocks its operation or the ignition lock and wiring from the ignition lock are faulty.
In this case, you should contact the experts.
It is difficult for me to explain further actions through Google Translator.

Hi. Harry. I disconnected the wire going from the solenoid to the starter and turned the ignition switch to start and for some reason power was going to solenoid. I removed the starter and found one brush wire was making contact. I am now waiting on a new brush box.I will keep you posted on outcome. Davy
