Obsolete tyres

Postby davide_ttk » Mon Dec 31, 2018 1:31 pm

Hi, I have a 1992 Transit van 2.5 DI, but the tires listed are 185 R14C 8PR 106N-104N
Up to now it seems impossible to find such tires in the market (at least in Italy), the only available are marked 104/102. Was Transit sold with those tires in UK, too?
Is there any supplier as you know?
By the way I suspect that those tires never existed, and it was only an error at the transport office that issued the documents.
Thanks for any reply

Try use tyres 195/75R14 106.
It can be Hankook RW06, Hankook RA08, Continental Vanco2, Toyo H09, Pirelli Carrier...
This size has practically the same diameter as 185R14 (-0,54% = -3,5 mm).

You won't find now tyre 185R14 106/104.

Its a shame you aren't nearer as I've got four 185R14's and two 195R14's here that you could have had cheap. :D

A Transit looks better on 195 R14 than on 185 R14, I think.
The dimension 195 R14 is written into the titles of my 87 and 88 models.

I've been running 205R14C tyres for over ten years, puts the gearing up just a touch.

Hi,
yes, next travel in UK and I will contact you..
In any case, are your tires marked 106/104? Which model and manufacturer? Date of production? They are important information for me.
Happy new year

Oddly enough, my last pair of tyres for the hicube came from Italy, they are 185r15c 103/102Q. I could have got tyres in the UK, but I was after a pair that matched the other 5 I already had fitted (it's dual wheeled), and even with delivery they were a very competitive price. None in the UK had a higher load rating, and Q is more then enough for the speeds we'd be travelling at.

They came from a company not too far from Pompeii, which we passed by a few weeks after buying them!

What's your max. permittable rear axle weight? With 104/102's it may be up to 1800 kg (given single rear wheels), if you're below that you won't need 106/104's.
Otherwise switch to a wider tyre as suggested previously.
