Mk5 190 2.5 di turbo really slow

Postby powercrazymark » Mon Apr 08, 2019 4:22 pm

Hi I've just bought a 100ps 190 mk5 and compared to my 120 70ps flareside its mega slow just thought that even tho its biggher the 30ps would have made it at least the same. Not sure as this is the first 2.5 turbo I've driven it's on a r reg 1997. Any ideas????

Just to update plugged it in and read codes
P1174 cam sensor
P1176 cam calibration
P1190 calibration resistor
P0400 egr system flow malfunction
Guessing the last one is the least of my worries but do the other 3 point to the pump??

Cheers Matt that's the way I was thinking I've removed the plug from the rear and its green with corrosion so I've cleaned it and its better but keeps acting up sometimes when starting. I was going to convert it later anyway but looks like am doing it now. Did anyone have any luck making a hybrid manual pump with the turbo top on? If so are the instructions on here?
Cheers

if your just planning on running between 85-100hp i wouldn't bother with all the extra expense of a pump with a boost compensator. i have a standard bosch N/a pump adjusted conservatively bit of black smoke when cold but once warm runs clean as it should. its fitted to a 1997 190 with a recovery body on the back i can get up hills fully loaded so i'm sure i have at least 100hp. if anything use the money on a intercooler mine starts to get warm if i go up a long hill fully loaded.
but if you do want to do it there was a factory option for a bosch pump with boost compensator the 130hp mermaid marine engine fitted to boats and apparently TD transits that were for export. apparently this is the part number for it 7229985 if you can find of the Bosch Numbers on the from the pump any bosch injection specialist will be able to get the parts that are required to modify a standard pump.

So am I right in thinking I can just fit an inter cooler and drive away no mods other than mounting and pipe work?

Nope... marinised were never offered or sanctioned by Ford. They came from Lancing marine and used 70PS pumps with modified fuelling (smoke far less of an issue) and a much bigger turbo.

There was a bosch TD pump with boost compensator for non EU markets. It was 75PS (emissions). Part no 0 464 414 154

I understand the different pumps now. But could I just fit an inter cooler straight to my 100ps van an see a difference the way it is or do I need to modify any thing else to go with the inter cooler?

Chears, so you are not into an intercooler now?
About the marine injectors: Tim got me a set, and the van runs great after the swap.
I think if you consider still the 130ps injectors you need to install an intercooler also, to get the most out of them.
And I changed the exhaust with bigger pipes, this was also a significant uograde.

But great, if you found the problem :D

Well I think ive sorted it for now until I get a manual set up sorted. However van still a bit lumpy when cold but smooths off when warm. Suppose I would be bored if everything was easy

So the next thing is my diagnostic computer was reading low boost on the live data so I've turned the turbo up and it has made a slight difference but still only reading 0.3 psi so I have decided it's not reading correctly and I've fitted a boost gauge and with the turbo turned up it's making about 1 bar/14 psi. Why would it be making the correct amount of boost fully turned up? Dont really want it turned up I want it set correctly and boosting properly.
Any ideas??

I've tried a couple with no success. I'm going to fit an intercooler when I can figure where to place it, pipe work easy enough but finding a spot for the intercooler is more of a challenge. If it can reduce intake temps it should be good in my books.
