Wds unable to connect transit 98

Postby Vallol » Sun Oct 06, 2019 2:39 pm

Hi guys. Tho it's getting obsolete, I've purchased several old transits over the summer and now a WDS tool for it. Out of 3 epic powered Transits I can connect trouble free to 2 of them with 95vb... DCU-s. It doesn't matter if I use the older or newer cable, they both work perfectly. One vehicle is an 98vb.. DCU. Calibration sticker says its FAA calibration. No communication with wds no matter what I try. Checked wiring and all appears good. I cannot replace dcu-s cause the 95 and 98 dcu connectors are not interchangeable. Anybody had any luck connecting wds to 98vb.. DCU?

FAA is 85PS manual without immobiliser/aircon I think... si that code should work ok

I must admit I skipped WDS and have only used FDS/IDS and Laser 2000.

What are you trying to achieve?

Trying to read the dtc-s. It gives me MIL when at full working temperature and idling. If I keep the revs above idle, I can drive it 100km without a problem. When MIL is on, it might limit the power a little, not sure as it's not so powerful to begin with

I have had fried ecus which won't communicate - but then the van doesn't run either.

Based on your description my initial thought would be the coolant temperature sensor (or associated wiring)

Thx. Will check it over the weekend. The reference values for the temperature sensor are the same for all years?
