Mystery knob on smiley dash

Postby purps » Wed Nov 27, 2019 4:39 pm

Hi all, any idea what this is for please?

1999 Transit, seems to have various extras like heated front screen, heated/electric mirrors, electric windows, etc.

Cheers,
Matt.

Impossible to say but definitely not Ford, you need to pop the little bit of trim out and see if it’s wired up and if it is trace the wires to see where it ends. :P

Are there any extras on the outside or in the rear? Might be for night-time silencing of a reversing beeper, a work light, maybe retro-fitted heated seats or an extra heater blower in the back?

Thank you all for the replies. Definitely not an ejector seat - the knob behind the wheel remained exactly where he was.

Go to know it's not standard at least. I am not aware of any external "extras". I will investigate further and let you know! I wondered if it was for cold starting or something.

Cheers,
Matt.

Did you find out? I have just bought a Mk5 campervan and it also has one very like that (not identical but same place). It turns about a quarter turn from left to right with stops at either end a hand-marked centre point. I wonder if it's a variable heated seat control? Will try it later....

Activate the knob and see if anything happens, or trace the wires and see what they attach to :D

it might have been fitted just to troll the next owner!
i have fitted switches that do nothing in the past to fill a unsightly hole left by an immobilizer LED/ fob pickup that has long since been removed.

Thank you all, there was a mystery bung in the roof at the very back which got me thinking, and while I had the headliner down and A pillar trims off (leaking aerial argh), was able to trace the cable from the switch all the way to the back. Must have been for a flashing light or similar. Appreciate the help. Matt.
