Mk5 indicator ? Self cancelling?

Postby npjrogers » Thu Dec 19, 2019 9:19 pm

Should the indicator on a 96 mk5 smiley be self cancelling? If so has anyone a photo of the mechanism involved please.

Yes and it's actuated by a plastic collar with a tab that sometimes snaps off behind the steering wheel.

My money is on the plastic actuator ring that Keef mentioned above rather than the actual stalk, its a very common fault. Easy to see it when you take the steering wheel off.

Hi does anybody know where the tab is available from, or does anyone have a part number I can ask at Ford if they sell the tab. Thanks

I would look before buying anything because my stalk is broken as well and I’ve had 3-4 others all the same :x
Can’t say any of them had the other little black cam or whatever it’s called broken :!:
Either way I don’t mind it not cancelling the indicator you soon get used to it

I’ve had three stalks and cams on mine and have never got it to cancel, just used to it now, on auto pilot
