Throttle Sticking

Postby meterreader » Fri Dec 27, 2019 6:51 am

I have a 1996 vf transit van, the throttle has just started to stick after you take your foot off and re press. Its been converted from epic to mechanical fuel injector. What could be causing this, it works fine 95% of time but when you are at the lights and you press the accelerator and its solid you panic a bit! If its the cable what would be the likely replacement ?

First thing you need to do is disconnect the throttle cable at the pump and see if the cable is sticking or if the pump lever is sticking itself, if the cable is nice and free moving without any issues then it’s going to be the pump :x

What a @#$% head !! It turns out that another characteristic of the engine, the loose dip stick pipe had vibrated in to a position that the dip stick was jamming the throttle. Moved it away and havnt had the problem since. Thanks for the reply and sorry for wasting peoples time.

On mine, I took out the tube, cleaned the end, and the hole, and re-fitted it with thread lock liquid.

It didn't move after that

i did the Same thing ( unbranded red lock tight)when i first got my transit in around 2016 it has just started to work loose again so a pretty decent fix in my opinion. use the branded stuff loctite 272 would be stuck in there good.
