Engine Run Away, Oil from Exhaust, will not turn over

Postby therigsmith » Tue Feb 18, 2020 11:16 pm

So the screw come out of the cam rocker and my engine went into run away and would not turn off.

I just put one of my kids in the van, I got all confused and slammed it into 1st gear to try stop it. Should have used a higher gear but I was super confused and not had it happen in ages.

I put the screw back in but the engine is f***. it will not turn over. Looking under a hole in the exhaust we had for a long time dripped out a lot of oil. So looks like a piston had been pumping oil badly.

I will try get the van back to my yard tomorrow. while I take a breath and sh*t myself. Anyone want to take a guess what is broken please. I am a competent amateur and will solve this somehow

If it’s badly locked you will need to pull the injectors to clear the cylinders of oil, you could try tow starting it but if the cylinders are properly locked you could cause major damage

Are you thinking the piston is full of oil and hydro locked?

It turned really hard with a wrench on it. one part is super hard some of its turning easy then I come up against a resistance while turning. How should it turn and sound.

Should i take the head or sump off to look. Or shall I take injectors out first and see if oil pumps out.

When I tried the key the engine nocked real hard and something smelt a bit burney. I decided to wait till its brought home as I did not want to force something to brake. hopefully that has not already happened but I think I killed it.

I got it to turn with the injectors out. Spat out some oil but when I put them back in no luck.

Is the piston f***

Pull injectors and leave out, then pour in some diesel to clean out the oil. I'd drop oil and sump first before pulling head.

Did it turn over freely with the injectors out?

From your description, adding all the time needed to strip the engine, buy replacement parts and with no guarantee it will be OK I'd be fitting a replacement engine.

Looks ok Under the rocker.

I blew out all the extra oil. Turned and turned it with injectors out. put each injector back one at a time turned and turned.

Now its turning but battery I think is flat. its been charging and we going to try it in a moment.

Yes had it started briefly. lots of white smoke lol but its a runner I think.

I am just putting the inlet, rocker covers and all the sh*t back together and going to test drive.

I think its winner, If I dont post back it was good in the end.
