Bosch VE Fuel Pump Minor Leak from Underside Transit MK5 Di

Postby Timelourd » Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:16 pm

Pressure from a knackered injector caused a leaky old gasket in the pump, which then caused the bleed nipple/pressure relief valve at the side of the Bosch VE pump to spit. I plugged the pressure relief valve with some molten steel and replaced the knackered injector.

Now the final leak is just a tiny bit of fuel coming from the underside of the pump. Not sure if this is easy to replace, or if I'll fudge it up.

Anyone got any experience with this?

I'll update this post with pictures in a bit.

There are only really a few places it can leak from, inlet or return pipes/connections, injector pipes, front shaft seal, top cover o ring, throttle shaft o ring, or the distributor head o ring.
Clean any leaked fuel from the pump and make sure its dry then stick a few paper towels around the pump body and start the engine and look for damp spots appearing on the paper towels.

Great idea Chuggy. I guess I can send back that UV fuel dye.

Turns out one of my injectors was busted. I replaced it and the leak stopped.
