I could fix this very quickly if van was in front of me,but trying to suss it out over internet and with no wiring diagram is ‘painfull’
Early mk5 switches the positive feed to motor to vary speed through resistor,I don’t even know if your is same or earth switched..
Best I can suggest to try figure this, plug everything in except the motor.
See if you get any voltage at either terminal in motor connector.
With ignition on and at each fan speed.
Also check for a voltage supply Upto switch connection, switch disconnected, ignition on.

Right,
Got the correct diagram.
The 30A fuse F1 violet and orange goes straight to motor.
White and black from motor goes to white and violet at resistor and black and orange at switch
Black at switch is earth
Black and yellow
Black and blue,
are straight from switch to resistor.

Fuse F1 is live from a bus bar in fuse box via the ignition relay K41

Now I know how it’s wired.
With ignition on,see if you have 12V at the violet and orange wire at heater motor plug first.
If not check the fuse F1 is live both sides of fuse, again battery voltage.

Forget the earlier checks I said, that would apply to earlier van not yours.

Ok,
Check it’s still live at the heater motor 2 pin plug, violet and orange.

If that’s ok,
Then Bridge pins;
4 black
And
2 black and orange at the heater switch.
That should make fan run at full speed.(whether resistor is plugged in or not,and if it’s good or shot)

Just to clarify power at motor ‘switch’ connector,or heater motor connector ?

Find a piece of wire long enough to fasten it to a good clean earth, with ignition on and motor plugged in.
Bridge the black and orange wire (pin2) at heater fan switch to earth....
