Buggered up timing

Postby Bruce e » Fri Mar 27, 2020 8:03 am

Just got head back on after doing gasket etc. Fitting new belt and can't stop valve's hitting pistons, like a full I didn't peg the cam and rotated it. What I want to know is will I have to take the head off and get the timing right or can I turn the cam with the rockers off

Yes if the rocker shaft is loosened so all valves are closed you can then turn the cam or crank to retime.

Thanks I tried that once but still something touched, am I correct in thinking one revaluation of the crankshaft is 4 of the camshaft or is it the other way around also having trouble working out which should be open at the correct time

Make sure you're in the correct flywheel hole, your pin should go right through the flywheel not stop halfway

In a four stroke (suck, squeeze, bang, blow) the engine rotates twice whilst the camshaft and injection pump rotate once.
If you have the rocker cover off then when crank is at tdc on no 1 cyl its valves will be closed and number 4 cyl valves will be rocking.

Thanks Chuggy a few things don't make sense still would not rotate with rockers off so took the head off and found a bit of rusty crap that must have come out of the head. I pressure washed it and blew it out apparently not well enough. Buggered the gasket in the process can't get one at the moment because we are in lock down here so I will put the gasket back on with some copper goo and see how we go
