Need power for reversing camera.

Postby stonelynk » Sun Apr 05, 2020 1:26 pm

Hi, I have a Pioneer system with a reserving camera but whoever fitted it did not connect the cable to turn the camera on when the van is put into reverse. I have a 98 transit LWB 2.5D.

I have a cable from the Pioneer, which will pick up a voltage change and then switch the camera on, so I am looking to connect to the reversing lights but need to connect at the front of the vehicle. Could any one suggest the way forward.

Many thanks

on early fords the reversing lights used to be live all the time and the reverse switch in the gearbox just earth it out to put the lights on when put into reverse I think my mk6 had a two Terminals system on the switch and it still earth it out the same and my mk8 is the same as it had a reverse horn fitted without a switch to turn it off at night I have disconnected earth wire off it and put a switch inline to earth to be able to turn it off at night is the wire coming out of your radio a live feed or is it down to earth to operate the camera .

Me to mate I’m ok on older vehicles and on the mechanical parts of modern stuff but my last two jobs have had their own electrical filters and they would be very secretive so I to would be a bit reluctant to muck about to much their is some good lads on this forum who will come along soon and give more useful help .

Should just be a case of tapping into the non feed wire going onto the switch in the gearbox. Alternatively wire in a switch on dash and turn camera on manually

Just connect to the wires at the back lights?
