Engine noise reduction

Postby Ashgard » Tue May 26, 2020 12:47 pm

I am considering to put noise reduction material under the hood. The engine noise is not terrible, but reducing it would certainly be better.
I have some questions about this:
- what is a good material to use?
- where (on what parts) should the material be placed?
- how do you mount the material?

Or perhaps someknow knows an other way to reduce the engine noise?

Thanks A

Perfect! I did search for a topic like that, but didn't find it. Probably used the wrong keywords.

You might want to consider dosing your fuel with a drop of 2 stroke oil....there's no strict rule as to how much to stick in but half to 1 litre per tank full of derv always worked fine for me......the most noticable effect was that it quietened down the (very noisy) Bosch pumps by improving the lubrication qualities of the fuel

Good are all ways to reduce noise in the cab.
I think the best is to properly adjust the fuel pump and install a turbocharger.
But the use of sound-absorbing materials will not be superfluous.
Air supply to the cylinders under excessive pressure leads to a higher temperature in the combustion chamber of the engine and a reduction in the ignition delay time of the fuel, which reduces the noise level created by the engine.

Is it safe to put a turbocharger to a high milage engine?
Other way to help combustion to reduce the ignition delay?

Just a side to this subject, I have 6 mk5 and some of them have had a shield over the belhousing gearbox and one had a shield under the engine. Are these common and do they make a difference. I have not put them on as they make maintenance a pain

They where a plastic cover in two pieces and on the inside they had a foam lining to dampen the sound .

A fiberglass like material may be a fabric composit with 20mm foam padding that soaks up all the oil etc.
