tickover to fast

had a new fuel filter fitted to my 2.5di non turbo .ever since it tickover has gone up a bit . i,ve loosened the acc cable and did the thing with the egr but still seems to fast.i know nothing about diesels so i,am hoping for a easy fix. what i want to know is why would the tickover rise just by changing the filter. and do they have a idle screw.
