-98 epic to bosch conversion problem

Postby Chevy56 » Mon Jul 06, 2020 6:26 pm

Hello. I just converted my -98 2.5 td engine with an epic pump. To a bosch 146. With the good information on this forum.

Everything went smooth, with the installation. But have some problems to get it to run right.

When i advanced the pump, it Will knock HARD in the engine. So i tried to back it of a little bit at a time. And when i am in the middle of this adjustment it sounds good. But when you tried to rev it. It smokes and hesitate. The max feul is in the stock position.

Is it something that i have missed? Any ideas what the problem can be?

The pump is from a banana engine -99.

Sorry for the bad english. Hope you Will understand :D

I've kept mine as standard, no advance at all, for similar reasons.

Any attempt to advance the pump made it sound awful, but as standard it's the quietest and most economical MK5 I've owned despite being the largest too.

That said, there have been no obvious adjustments to the pump either (at least not by me, I bought it with Bosch pump aleady fitted), and I believe you have to turn the fuelling up as well as advancing the pump to get that extra power.

What does it drive like at the current setting?
Is the smoke from the start of acceleration, or at higher throttle opening?

if it drives ok and has plenty of power through the rev range but is smokey, then you could try backing of either the top adjustment for low down smoke or max fuel screw for high end smoke.
