HELP!!!

Postby Pdiddybigbear » Sun Jul 19, 2020 7:01 pm

Really need help on this, engine bay is soaked everytime it rains and this has made it's way through to my foot well.
I can deal with the rust but what I dont understand is.how the water is just pouring into the engine bay, all over my second battery, air filter and just everything.

Should there be seals somewhere as looking at it there is not rubber around the bonnet and the plastic trim that holds the wipers and jets has nothing under it to.stop.wayer just pour into the engine bay.

Should there be a seal here or something?

there should be a long rubber seal along the front of the scuttle where the bonnet sits.

Check the plastic fittings that hold down the plastic trim under the wipers. The plastic nuts are not weather sealed in the scuttle and will let water drip onto the batteries, into the battery tray, then into the foam on the bulkhead, which then rots through causing floods in the cabin and holes around the strut tops.

A good dollop of silicon or petroleum jelly on the nuts will help keep the wet out.

Also, if you have a high roof, check where the roof fits in the gutter above doors. The large rubber trim will shrink over the years, exposing the front of the gutter, and if that is not sealed then water can blow back up it, dropping down into the 'a' pillars, causing floods in the cabin and holes around the strut tops.

Honestly your a hero, everything you have just described is what I found today.
I have a hole at my strut top and 10cm long and 2 cm at its widest and then a trial or rust down to the door step.
Under the plastic i pictured below there is nothing at all just large holes into the engine bay, should there be something filling these holes do you know?
It's safe to sale the seal is shot so need a new one of them but cant find them.online, is there a special place to get them ?
Thank you again

http://catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l=bWFy ... IrMA%3D%3D

catcar shows a seal which i'm assuming goes between the plastic trim and windscreen (no 2 on the page) but i don't think I've seen one on any of the vans I've worked on.

If the gap between the wiper trim panel and windscreen as fairly even try fitting some double glazing seal, or just browse ebay for some generic rubber seal. it doesn't have to be perfect at the very ends, where the trim panel scoops up, it just needs to stop the wipers pushing water into the scuttle when moving and rain falling in when not.

Hi. have got the same probs with water seeping past the plastic fixings on the scuttle and dripping over the battery tray. Have cleaned-up entire wing- area and replaced rust-destroyed battery tray but only just found this guide to where water coming from - so thankyou guys !!!

However, how did you do the actual fix? Do you remove the scuttle (and risk breaking all the plastic pins) clean up and replace with silicon in pin-holes or what? I can only just get hand underneath to feel it let alone get a mastic tube in there.
So how did you do it please?

Rgds all.

The pins unscrew out of plastic nuts, I've not ever broken one. They may be covered by tiny trim covers, pop them off with small flat screwdriver.

You also need to take the wipers off and use a 32mm socket to remove the big plastic nut that is under one of them. The cover will then lift away.
