Cleaning water tank on 1989 Ford Transit campervan

Postby FranTheVan1989 » Tue Aug 04, 2020 5:02 pm

Hi there,

I have a 1989 Ford transit camper with a fitted boiler. We have never used the water tank and know we need to clean it before using. Has anyone done this and can recommend products/how to go about doing it safely?

Thank you! I have attached a photo of the van.

Puriclean works very well. Just flush it through very thoroughly

I always use cleaning tablets for dentures. May sound a bit strange, but its safe and works quite well. Use about 1 tube of these things for 80 litre tank, then flush it a couple of times after that.

I used puri clean on my transit mk3 camper (1991 model). I knew the water system hadn't been used for 12 years at least.
I gave it a drive to 'shake it', used all the taps and left it in there overnight. Then repeatedly emptied and refilled with fresh water multiple times, before another round of puri clean. Seemed to work very well.
