Banana engine wasn't starting now no alternator

Non turbo banana engine. I changed the ignition barrel for a switch and push button as I brought it without keys.

A few days ago the push button stopped working altogether, no starter action. All wires looked sound and I managed to get it started with a by rewiring the push button direct from the battery to the relay terminal on the starter. I now get two lights on the dash, battery and temperature ( these also used to light up when I go through puddles) and it is no longer charging the battery.

Any help appreciated!

There is no temperature light?

If the ignition isn't on properly it won't be charging

You're right, it's an LDV but I've been reading here for years. There's no better place for info on the banana. Cheers

The LDV wiring will be similar but different... but there is no temperature warning provision on the 2.5Di - so not sure what what means on the LDV? Low water level maybe?
