Transit mk5 190 100ps im breaking is in limp mode

Got it running by arcing the starter and had to use easy start, its in limp mode, engine sounds sweet but smoky, but fuel is 15 years old, what could be puting it in limp mode please

It was new in 93, it cant need replacing already!!! things dont last like they use to

You can use a paperclip to get blink codes through the engine management lamp.

Does it turn off or does it run on?

It turns off straight away, i had it ticking over for half an hour, not starting on key tho, had to bridge starter accross
