Propshaft rotation

Postby MinorMatt » Tue Feb 09, 2021 4:09 pm

Daft question, but im pondering and I don't have a van in front of me to double check...

If you were at the back of the van, looking forwards towards the gearbox, would the propshaft be turning clockwise, or anti clockwise when moving forwards? I am struggling to remember!

Thanks

Hi I think it’s clockwise I seem to think when requiring a van or car to move forward on a ramp or pit putting a screwdriver in the prop u j on the drivers side of the prop and pulling it down on r h d

I must admit that's what I thought... but there is someone telling me I am wrong...

I can see why someone is telling you your wrong as the engine rotates anti-clockwise but I’m sure after going through the gearbox it rotates clockwise

Ignore that just realised the engine rotates clockwise from the front

If 4th gear is a direct drive, would that also mean it's going the same direction as an engine? I'm not on the flat or id let the handbrake go and have a look underneath

Well, there you go, I was under the impression that it rotated clockwise, looking from the front :?

Don't ask me why I think that though

Well that's a shame... I would have to put a gearbox in to reverse direction and achieve my aim then :(
