So...........
Took a rather sh*t pic of the top of the tank and........
It is indeed 5 pin as MinorMatt originally suggested.
Crimped a couple of insulated spade connectors on the wires and forced them on the 2 terminals Chuggy showed on his 2 wire set up and the gauge went from hard over to right off the scale to on the full mark
Did just over 100 miles today ,but I had brimmed it this morning.
It appears to have dropped back slightly so is working

Thanks for the quick and informative advice guys.

ner ner ne ner ner

If its working all is good - but probably a good idea to fix it properly before too much water gets in and rots the pins off?

Due to not having the Propper connector any more

Play doh or blue tac moulded over the incredible repair to prevent ingress of corrosive nasties perhaps

I'll tell better tomorrow if the gauge is dropping and sort something more permanent over the weekend.

Unfortunately some Idiot is carrying 60odd litres of fuel now

So.........
The very kind gift from Chug arrived.
I had lots of fun popping the bubbles on the jiffy bag

Tested wires on van prior to fitting and tested after to make sure my soldering was up to scratch.

Battery volts at the connection and all taped up then loosely clipped onto the pins. Can't get it to locate properly due to excess filth.

Still reading full
I've obviously buggered something when the wire was pulled off

Tank needs to come back off at the weekend anyway to investigate some dodgey looking metal so I'll use the tester on the pins and see if the sender is FUBAR.

Anyone know what the resistance values should be

Vroom vroom.

I'll just keep brimming the tank if necessary

Or fit an external feature that allows the fuel level to be monitored
