MK4 epic to bosch conversion- again

Postby bigbeurky » Sun Feb 28, 2021 10:49 am

hi
After changing twice a Bosch 0460 414 145 pump to remplace the lucas epic on a 1999 TD MK5, i was pretty confident when i decided to tear apart my lucas epic pump on a 1994 MK4 camper van. I've had way too many problems with it .. problem is, the proper bosch pump seems to be more rare than the jabberwooky in the south of france ( at a proper price..)
so i found myself a whole engine from a 1996 Di MK5 with a bosch pump 0460 414 123. As read on the forum the pump will work properly if correctly adjusted and timed. The only proble for me is what to do with the butterfly system that's originally on the di engine. Can i bypass it ?? do i have to adapt the inlet manifold to allow the pump to work properly. But then if i change the inlet manifold will it not alter the turbo ??
thanks for your help lads, i never would've tried working on this without this forum

There is a rod which goes from the bosch pump throttle arm to the manifold as in the photo at the top of this thread....

There are different length rods depending on which inlet manifold you have.

thanks, mine being a 1994 TD it doesn't have an EGR, so i can leave the butterfly off. But then if i want the pump to give enough when turbo goes on, am i not supposed to link the pump to the inlet admission ? does the 0460414123 handle LDA ?? i know i did it on the 0460414154 i used for conversion on the MK5, but it isn't exactly the same display. I hope i can get this pump to work properly with a turbocharged engine..
