Safe Car Ramps...

Postby Heathen » Wed Mar 31, 2021 8:22 am

If I had a pair of car ramps, rated at 750kg each, would they hold up the front of my Van?

...and not collapse and crush me.

If the question was would I use 750kg ramps, the answer would be a definate NO.
I use Rino ramps, rated at 1350kg.
Better safe than sorry IMHO.

Mine current lives on ramps similar to the link below and had done for a few months now. no issues, I have just put some axel stands under it just in case :)

Thanks for the replies.

I know it's not common sense to be doing an oil change when the van isn't level, but it's literally thousands of km's overdue for one, and I don't have many options.

You don't need ramps to do an oil change on one of these, there's plenty of room with it on the ground.

2 Tonne capacity - combined? So 1 Tonne each? I find these ratings a bit ambiguous, especially when it's a shop trying to shift them.

I realise that there's good ground clearance, but the ramps will be used for other repairs/maintenance in the future, and I have a couple of other vehicles (the van being the heaviest). I want ramps to cover all bases.

The whole van isn't much more than 2 tonnes so the front or rear will be much less, but just get some 2.5 or 3 tonne heavy duty ones if you are worried, or weld some strengthening metal into the 2 tonne ones.

My drive way slopes down towards the garage so there ramps actually make it level :) There is clearance without ramps but as someone who is currently pulling his hair out trying to get my sump off... the more room the better :) Plus if its over due an oil change you will want room to get the pesky sump nut off.

As said.
Either get the higher rated ones or reinforce the others.

I've had a cheap set slowly collapse once a van was on them.

Job done.

I lay down some decking boards, put some weights plates on top of that. It gave me an extra, luxurious, ~2.5" of clearance.

...and what a pleasure the sump plug was. I think it's a lead/playdough alloy.

Slightly late to the party - but my only ramps are rusty and old and rated to god knows what. They don't give me loads of confidence so I stack bricks under the flat where the wheels sit and stick some chunky logs in under the incline. It's worked fine so far

750kg each so a total of 1500kg for the pair to lift just the front of the van, I would say is safe. As said it’s no more than 2 tons total

Remember the 750kg ramps are Chinese rated.

I have Rhino Ramps also. They are very heavy-duty.
