Injectors - help!

Postby caercamper » Thu Apr 01, 2021 12:14 pm

Hi there

Tearing my hair out a bit at what is clearly a very confusing world of pencil injectors...

One is leaking on my May 1994 2.5TD 150L mk4. Pretty sure it's 100HP.

Had it tested and been told the injector is bust so I need a new one. I've seen the Stanadyne part number list that is posted on here but can't make head nor tail of the different options. I've had the current one out and it's unmarked except for 'AS' towards the nozzle, so presumably aftermarket itself (I know they were done in 2018ish prior to my ownership).

I've seen a generic part available on ebay:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143966495470

And from here, I can see the part number as 1048438: https://ford.7zap.com/en/transport/82/c ... 039/65223/ but the genuine parts don't seem easily available (only found for £200) and I can't find a conversion to the Stanadyne part number!

My question is: will the generic eBay part work or could I run the risk of damage if it's not the same as those already in there? It seems such a minefield but reluctant to shell out for genuine and would prefer buying just 1 to all 4!

Any advice on any of the above appreciated - I've read through all I can on here but no clear answer that I've found.

Many thanks

The tables available to me give the following nozzle: color Blue, Stanadyne number
33408, 28935, 30689; Ford number 1048438 and others.
Stanadyne number 33408 is commercially available.
There is a color mark on the nozzle body and the number 33408 is embossed.

If you send Stanadyne an email they will give you the contact details for your local suppliers of 33408 injectors.

Many thanks all - I had thought 33408 might be right but lots of contradictory info, particularly on eBay! I’ll email Stanadyne and hopefully will get details of a supplier.

Thanks again

Hi again - have managed to source the part from Darwin Diesel. I’m fairly sure the remaining three injectors fitted are not 33408 given the price from the receipt I have for the rebuilt a few years ago doesn't tally. Can I expect problems if they are mismatched slightly? Hard to know what is in there currently as they’re totally unmarked.

Mismatched injectors can cause weird running problems

Chinese injectors (i.e. the non Standayne ones) are a mixed bag, not normally made within tolerance, are unmarked, and can be pretty much any spec the person selling them wants them to be...

Alright - I’ll give this one I’ve ordered a go and if it causes any problems I guess I’ll aim to replace the remaining three with the same. Cheers
