Clutch Ratchet

Postby Teamidris » Wed Apr 07, 2021 1:24 pm

Clutch ratchet was doing my nod, so I added a pusher rod instead of the operating paw. And to be fair it has lasted for a lot of years. Then yesterday it went crack and dropped half an inch because I had broken the puller half-wheel thingy. . .
Time to get serious and pull the half wheel where the clutch cable terminates. This ought to work and be easy to adjust.

Very nice, but you could have just fitted a later pedal with manual adjust?

I’m trying to keep it original.

I made myself laugh with that one :) honestly, I didn’t know there was one? And now it is too late :D
And I suppose in all honesty even that is rare?
The parts I can get for the 1958 landrover vs the parts I can’t get for a 1991 Ford transit is impressive. Right down to re-manufactured thermostat housings, it’s nuts what is available.

Every transit after 1997 had one - so not really

There hasn't been anything I have needed that I can't get (yet) through one way or another...

I need to get my 110 finished soon...

The clutch cable ratchet mechanism is only a few quid.

That doesn’t look like mine? I got fed up after the third one. They lasted less and less time. To be fair to Ford nothing lasts on mine like the original bits. The front shocks did 29years and even then it only failed because I gave it too much abuse changing the front springs (end came came off)

Are you sure you haven't got another problem which is causing the ratchets to fail ?

They have a reputation for being a bit pants. Same clutch since 1997, about 3 cables to date and even the Ford Focus was hydraulic, which kind of says it all really :)
Could have been a paw alignment issue, but it was fine for the first 15 years. This latest one missed a good engagement, jumped and took a tooth off the half wheel. At that point it had drained my patience. Would have been ace in cast aluminium.
