Mk5 transit oil around exhaust manifold ..smokes on pipes

Postby 97transit2.5D » Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:22 am

So looking at front of banana engine. On the RIGHT side.
Is a exhaust manifold soaked in oil. A lift pump is above these pipes as they meander to the rear.
Question is,where does this oil come from. I also have oil
Coming from air inlet butterfly which leaks down the rubber hose evetually saturating the air filter element.
Ford mechanic said this might come from overheated
Cylinder which was damaged. Engine starts fine.does not
Use oil.climbs hills fine.no smoke white, black or blue.
Notice top tappet cover is covered in oil.
Tappets had been adjusted while back .

But wanted to tackle the smoking oil on this right side as
You can smell it in cabin when doing 100kmperh.
Photos coming. This may already be a solved
Issue. Apologies if it is a repeat.

Thks Rick

The rocker cover gasket leakes and the lift pumps leaks but fixable and off you go again no smoke til they leak again

Rocker cover gasket is a favourite...

If there is lots of oil in the inlet tract you need to take the rocker cover off and check all the bolts (10mm head) in the rocker gear are tight

Rockershaft bolts don't tend to leak oil on the exhaust manifold...
