Lucas Epic - Starting problem

Postby edy2001uk » Thu May 27, 2021 11:30 pm

Hi hoping someone can help, my campervan stood for a year during Covid, now it wont start, I replaced the battery also have it on a jump but it just turns and turns and never fires up.

The engine is from a 1996 150 TD, and i have never had any issues with the pump previously.

The immobiliser light goes out with the key and I have checked fuel at the injectors it comes through but not like its under pressure. There is fuel in the tank also :-)

Any help appreciated in diagnosing the issue.

Thanks

Hey mate, left my Mk5 Transit sitting for some time and had similar issues. Two common fixes I've found, both of which have worked for me is replacing the fuel filter.

When doing so it doesn't hurt to fill the new filter up with injector cleaner.

Also cleaning the battery terminals to ensure good connection.

After going both I found my van had developed an issue with the rotor sensor, however I was able to start it (in LIMP mode) after replacing the filter.

Hope this helps

Hi and thanks for the reply, I will try replacing the fuel filter but I was also wondering if there's anything manual I could do to check the Lucas Epic?

I think another post mentioned if its the pump it could be a relay issue ?

I can also see a vid on youtube to test the start/stop valve on the solenoid?

Any more info appreciated, if you can help.

I replaced the fuel filter, filled with cataclean, still unable to start.

I dont think the fuel is passing through the pump, could this be the actuator/solonoid on the lucas epic? or the immobiliser?

I didnt think it was the immobiliser as the light goes out, clear to start, but just turns and turns with no start.

Getting desperate now as need an mot/tax and cant even move it :-(

I would crack the injectors to see if any fuel is actually making it from the pump. If not would also check at the injector pump itself to see if the fuel lift pump is functioning.

If you have fuel at the injector pump, then I would check the stop solenoid
