Mk5 rear axle ratio

Postby Ransettimies » Sat May 29, 2021 5:43 pm

Hello, 2.5di with 5bolt timken. Ive looked vin tag but there is only letter "I" so i think there is happened some failure at factory? Because there is J and L code at list only.

I have about 3500rpm @ 100kmh so is it 5.16? Im not 100% sure for my tachos accuraty (its adjustable) but when i drive 100kmh engine roars and feels like absolute max speed is around 120kmh.

Turn the wheel TWO revolutions and count the number of driveshaft turns. The number of driveshaft rotations will help you determine your rear axle ratio. For example, if it turned 3 and a half times, it's a 3.50:1 ratio. If it turned 4 and a quarter times, it's a 4.25:1 ratio.

There should be a metal tag with diff ratio under one of the bolts holding the diff to axle casing. (Usually covered in muck)
Rpm sounds fairly close but its been a while since I had one with a rev counter.
Engine roar and speeds sound right for an old Transit, they're neither quiet or fast
