Why dont you check the torque sleeve :? theirs a link to it on this thread somewhere

I am abit worried about doing that job as i have never done it and i dont want to make a balls of it and the vans off the road completely.
Can you still buy a new Torque sleeve?

Thanks

You maybe able to clean the bore of the sleeve with fine paper , i used to use snap ring pliers to remove it from the pump

Just reaching for tin hat.......search for torque sleeve, I posted a couple of pics with a bolt in it to withdraw it and before and after cleaning, Jan 2019 ish.

My first van was a petrol, I had some fun with the ignition timing, ha! Got me thinking, is a diesel in any way similar, injection advance and retard.
The pump is bolted to the drive flange.I pinned the motor, slightly loosened the 4 bolts and replaced the pump pin with a slightly thinner drill, used the front nut on the pump to advance the pump in relation to the drive flange. Tightened the four bolts, removed all the pins and started the engine. It seemed just a touch brighter and seems to pull a bit better. Maybe it will help your sluggish motor, or not. Worked for me.

Hello camper-man.
I realized that you bought the car recently.
I think the reason the car doesn't want to go faster than 50 mph is because the rear axle has a 5.14 gearbox for a type 34 axle or 5.83 for a type 53 axle.

I have a mk5 non turbo (non banana) 96 camper. It is a 75ps. She has not been tweaked but she has a new timing belt and I made sure to loosen the pump sprocket after making sure all the other gears were pinned. Also made sure no air was leaking into the fuel filter. She has an MT75 close ratio 3.89 transmission. She will happily reach 60 on the flat. I also put 2mils per litre of low ash two stroke oil (B&Q) to keep the injectors sweet. She has also had a Terraclean. I am getting around 37 MPG. Feel free to message me if you want to chat.

37mpg is great fuel economy! 3.89 gear ratio is in the rear axle gearbox. Rarely lucky to have such a gearbox.
I had 4.11, but the teeth fell, I had to install the most common 4.56.
Fuel consumption is approximately 7.5 l / 100 km or 31 mpg.
The machine is 90 years old, the turbine was installed in 2015, in 2017 a fuel pump with a turbo corrector was installed.
How many times did it accelerate to 140 km
hour or 88 miles per hour.
My usual speed on country roads is 85 km / h, about 53 miles per hour.

That's for a US gallon!

In the UK 7.5l/100km is around 37-38mpg.

Thank you,Noctule
A person from the world of metric measurement does not see the difference in the British gallon and the American gallon.
For us, this is about the same as the Ukrainian pood and the Russian pood.
And the pood as he was, is 16 kilograms!
