Transit mk5 2.5 non turbo UNDER POWERED

Postby camper-man » Tue Jun 08, 2021 9:17 am

I have a 1999 transit 2.5 diesel NoN Turbo and it starts and drives and ticks over great but once you get on the open road it seems like it is under powered / pulling back
Anyone have any ideas what this could be? As it driving me up the wall
The egr valve has been blanked off and the butterfly gate is fully open this seemed to make it abit better

Van will do 50mph but anything over 20mph and it feels like am fighting it to pick up any power

Any help would be great Thanks in advance.

No it’s the return pipe you change it’s just a matter of moving the end bung from no 1 to no 4 and extending the return pipe to no1 I’d also get a new end bung as mine split removing it I did a temporary job of putting a round nail up a piece of return pipe to block it .

I was told only do the leak of mod if its running bad on tickover but i will do that tomorrow as well as changing the filter and see what happens

Anyone know the best place to buy new pipe and what size it is?

Thanks

Halfords sell it. It might not be the cheapest but you can just walk in and get it. They call it spill off pipe. Buy the vauxhall pack, it's basically a 1m length to cut as you want.

Sounds like it's fighting for either air or fuel.
If it's air it could be blocked air filter or inlet manifold full of egr gunk?
If it's fuel it could be fuel filter or maybe drawing air into the fuel somewhere?

Thats correct    . more likely if you haven't a fuel supply problem etc is the torque sleeve sticking in the injection pump

I went the van this morning
Cracked the injectors all seem fine
The leak off mod has already been done
I changed the fuel filter
And its still the same just struggling for power
The pump has been turned up by the last owner but am thinking could it of been turn up more than once so could it be this "Thats me next job turn the pump back 2 turns"

As i say this van starts and drive great but once you get on the open road its holding back on power i did 50mph on the motorway and i was ok but like it was flat out
