Adding turbo to a 2.5 diesel

Postby Mortgagesteve » Thu Jun 10, 2021 9:34 am

Hi,
I have a Ford Duetto 1994 2.5l (Mk4 I think) campervan on a Ford Transit base with 78 bhp when new, which is a bit sluggish. Compression test is OK with no smoke from the exhaust. The garage say the engine is fine, just a bit under powered. Built for longevity, not speed.
My question is, is it easy to fit a turbo? And should I do it?
I have read it is not as simple as just fitting one as you have to change lots of other things to accommodate the extra power that is produced.
Thanks in advance for any answers

Yes and Yes

All you need to change are the bits associated with fitting the turbo itself... all the drivetrain, brakes etc are the same on turbo and non turbo variants

That gives me an idea for my brother's incoming Duetto project. He's looking to get a turbo as well but first, we need to fully inspect the rust. We'll just finish installing the suspension from 4Wheelonline onto the current Wrangler project before we can clear the garage and take a closer look.
