1994 motorhome engine issues

Postby Herald Templar II » Mon Jun 28, 2021 9:36 pm

Hi I have a 1994 transit motorhome 2.5 td that i have had from new 116k miles on the clock. the engine starts on the key and runs well. no smoke issues with MOT and no red light but the engine pulses or surges at quite a high repeat. I have just completed a 350 mile round trip of Norfolk with no issues other than this surging. the surging cannot be felt but it is audible. the motorhome has been serviced every year and had the timing belt changed every 5 years. it is all original, pump, injectors and turbo (which can hardly be heard) the motorhome weights in at 3 tons and often tows a trailer. Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

It needs someone with a lucas laser 2000 to do a leakback calibration.

There is nothing wrong with it but as the injectors etc have worn in they need to be recalibrated for smoothness. Nothing is going to fall off or fail etc

Hi MinorMatt,
thanks for that, its very reassuring, a couple of years ago I took it to my local FORD dealer for diagnostics. they has it for a whole day and could not connect it to their computer but still charged me £90. the technician was old school and had trained on them but he still could not do it.
