Sudden change in starting

Postby Bagginsatsea » Wed Jun 30, 2021 4:42 pm

Hi. New on here hope someone can give me a . clue. Transit 2.5tdi 1999 90k miles. Bought this camper two years ago and in 10,000 miles it hasn't missed a beat. Always started instantly with hardly a spin of the starter but last couple of weeks needs cranking 20/30 seconds to start first thing. It had Bosch pump fitted at 70k. Oil changes every 3k and fuel filter. Doesn't use oil or smoke. Thanks in advance for any clue

I would be inclined to change the diesel lift pump as a first port of call...

If its not that its probably air ingress somewhere in the diesel pipework

Thanks for the tip Minormatt. Lift pump cheap enough so will give it a try. Dumb question coming up - where is lift pump located?
Thanks again

Pull the filter off and get someone to spin it over on the key, fuel should really p15s out if it doesnt the lift pumps faulty on more likely theres a blockage
