Mk3 throttle

Postby Kioun » Thu Jul 08, 2021 1:15 pm

I've just taken my mk3 transit derived motorhome for it's maiden voyage and it was really struggling to get to 50mph even on a flat road. Going into 5th and it can't cope and falls to 45.

I've heard people tweaking the fuel injection pump, however when looking in the area it doesn't seem like I am using the full amount of throttle position?

It looks like when the throttle is between 0-50% I can see the mechanism working the part on the right is pushed away to open the throttle. Once the cable is past 50% the mechanism is rotating but no longer pushes that part any further out, presumably throttle remains the same.

If I understand correctly, if I loosen the 2 nuts and adjust the metal piece I could then adjust the amount the throttle opens in relation to the pedal? And that currently it is simply not opening all the way.

Or am I way off with this

Kioun ,You can easily figure out if the choke is to blame for the loss of power.
Judging by the bad photo, you have a round air filter.
Remove it from the engine, remove the choke actuator, fully open the air damper and lock it in the fully open position. Return the air filter and do a test drive.

Look on the pump for the full throttle stop and see if it’s hitting it if not it may need the cable adjusting .

Take the cable of the throttle arm and move the throttle mechanism by hand and see if it revs higher than when the cable moves it.
