MK4 1996 Ford transit auto sleeper drive by wire replacement

Postby Rasraw » Fri Sep 03, 2021 3:33 pm

Hi, we recently bought a 10th hand Ford transit auto sleeper and had a few away trips with it, but then we started having an issue with the accelerator. It will start and we can drive it for a short period but then the accelerator cuts out and it only coasts along. If we switch it off and on a few times the throttle will kick back in for a short bit but then cut out again. I am not sure we would even be able to drive a mile with it.

We had someone run computer diagnostic on it and they proposed it needed a replacement drive by wire throttle pedal - however we have not been able to find one anywhere. Another mechanic suggested it could be the wiring into the injector pump and to look at a replacement epic diesel pump. Can anyone give us some advice as we are not mechanics and are struggling to know how to solve this?

Whoops! 1996

I have 2 pedals that would suit it on the shelf at the moment (well next week when I get back from holidays!)

A bit too far for me to come and plug it in then!

Do you know what codes were given to you?

Hi Minor Matt. Apologies for delay but had to wait for a mechanic friend to get them to me. Error codes were P1252, P1258, P1180, P1192, P0110, C1312. Hope this helps

Thanks

Its fairly obvious a generic code reader was used - and they arn't always accurate on these engines

P1252 - Throttle pedal, or throttle pedal wiring issue
P1258 - Throttle pedal, or throttle pedal wiring issue
P1180 - Throttle pedal, or throttle pedal wiring issue
P1192 - External Voltage issue (possibly a flat battery/failed alternator in the past - unlikely to be the source of your issue)
P0110 - Air temp sensor (1996 could be on the top of the airbox, or in the pipework between turbo and inlet manifold, wiring issues are common)
C1312 - Not a standard code

So another pedal would probably resolve the issues - I have 2 good used in stock at the moment if you need it (I will plug in to my van and test before its sent)
