2.5Di Struggles to start and rough running at high revs

Postby ben1002 » Wed Sep 22, 2021 9:49 pm

Mk5 Smiley Banana Engine

Struggles to start takes around 40 seconds of cranking

When you switch it off you can hear the fuel bleeding back to the tank (fuel pump area)

Tried turning up the fuel pump also and no matter how far its wound in there isn't any smoke at all

Lift pump replaced

Fuel filter changed

Leak off pipes changed

Timing belt changed and retimed fuel pump

Seems a bit missy around 3.5K RPM

Any advice? Fuel pump? Injectors? Where would you start

If fuels running back to the tank would it help to put a cheap non return valve in the fuel line? Somewhere between the tank and the filter.

I just did that on an old Range Rover which was struggling to start and its transformed the car.....definitely cheaper than a new starter motor too..
