Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum, although I've been lurking for a while, having recently bought a 1987-built mk3 camper. It needs a bit of work to get it back on the road, including new front hangers (lower arm mounts) and crossmember.
I've bought these front hangers from Central Panels, sold as being for the mk 3/4/5, but from what I understand, with these lacking the top lip they are more suited to the mk 4/5, with its extended front chassis legs:
I've read various threads on this topic elsewhere on the forum, but I can't quite figure out whether these are actually suitable for the mk3. It looks to me as though these need to be spot welded at the sides for their full length over the chassis leg box section on a mk4/5, however on the mk3 I think the box section only extends as far forward as just past the beginning of the hanger, and therefore the original hangers have the top lip that is spot welded to the bottom edge of the inner wing.
Please can anyone advise whether these are suitable for my mk3 and if so, how they ought to be attached? Or should I just return them and find some with the top lip?
I haven't seen any photos of a mk3 with the hangers removed, so if anyone has any pictures they could post that would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance.
