Mk5 Sump Bolt Removal

Postby Kyzza » Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:12 am

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has any advice for remove stubborn bolts from the rear of the sump.

My sump has had a slow leak for a while and as I have just replaced the front oil seals and gaskets I figured I would replace the sump gasket aswell. However it appears the one bolt won't move at all.

Im assuming the head is stripped as it's in an awkward location however I can't get any of my usual tools in there for stubborn bolt removal...

Ive moved the steering rack and sway bar forward to access the other bolts but still no luck with this one.

Any advice appreciated
Thanks
Kyle

Wack it anticlockwise a few times with a hammer and thin chisel then try again making sure you're using the correct size hex key.

Hey @Keef

Instant success, my sump appeared to have two ribe headed bolts at the front and 6mm hex heads at the back. Stipud me didn't check the previous bolt I had somehow removed with a Ribe bit. 6mm hex bit and a hammer worked wonders!

Thanks again!
