MK 3 or MK4? (and which Modell? (Sorry!))

Postby McMoe » Wed Apr 27, 2022 3:02 pm

Hey Guys,

Sorry for this beginner question, but I am very desperate to find out if my Transit is a MK3 or MK4 (and if possible which exact Modell my Ford Transit is, because my rear axle broke)

The only few things I know are that it is a diesel 2.5L, its manufactured in 1991 and it has 52kW.

Could you maybe help me out with a few informations, that would be awesome!

Thanks a lot guys!

Moe

I have a rear axle for that, but I guess you are not in the UK?

What you have there is a mk3 swb converted from a van.

Being a SWB, it can either be an 80, a 100 or 120. If you look at the stamped vin plate (the one with the raised lettering) it will tell you in the top right.

You need a mk3 (86-91) axle from an 80, 100 or 120 model

Hope that helps?

Hey, thank you so much!

So I've looked it up, I have the 80 Model. Unfortunately I live in Germany, but I've found this axle, could that be the right one?

92VB says its a mk4/5 one.

It is a bit wider, with slightly different brakes. To fit it the damper mounts would have to be cut off and rewelded in the same place as your axle

If you do as Matt says it is doable but I’d grind the mountings off you old axle mate of mine did one and went to far and it ended up leaking. Another one don’t know if this is true but the rumour was that the axle case snapped on one as it had been grown to deep .
