problem fitting Inlet manifold

Postby baba2000 » Mon May 30, 2022 1:38 pm

Hi, when I fit the inlet manifold there is still a gap on number two inlet from the front. All the bolts are tightened down I can see the thread of the bolt between the manifold and the head also I can flick the gasket about, its not tight. I've had it on and off a few times Tried a shorter bolt but its still got a gap. Thanks.

Sorry 2.5di banana, I took it off again ran a straight edge across it. Number two inlet is back 20mm out of shape. all the others are flush with the straight edge number two sits back. Would it bend back with heat or should I get another. Thanks.

That is not common at all

Either another required or mill the surface flat again

I would suggest its unlikely to have happened whilst attached to the engine because significant force would be needed to do that!

Thanks, I took it off to clean the carbon out, most people on youtube seam to set them on fire but I used unlit petrol to dissolve it, messy but cleaned it up no problem. I put the straight edge along the inlet on the head and that is straight so bit of a mistery. Thanks.

So if I've read this correctly it was fitted and the engine was running ok? and you took it off to clean it and now its bent and won't fit?

It wasn't like it wouldn't fit but there was a 20mm gap when it was all bolted down, Im no mechanic but you could see it wasn't right. It must have been like that from when I got it two years ago, sucking unfiltered air through the gap. It let me down for the first time about a month ago wouldn't fire. Anyway its had recon pump, injectors, egr blank , leak off mod, cleaned the fuel tank out, new centre box, oil and air and fuel filter, just tappets to do. Thanks
