How to identify my (mt75?) Gearbox

Postby In-transit » Tue Jul 05, 2022 6:03 pm

Hi.
Seen lots of talk about which oil to use on gearbox mt75.
Before I get further into research of which oil to use I thought I'd better check I have an mt75 gearbox.
I changed 2.5di banana engine and gearbox 18 months ago for another 2.5di banana engine and gearbox. Can't assume it's an mt75 gearbox I suppose.
It's cast with:-
Ford A IV/3
88VT 74K400-AA
On a ford barcoded sticker is:-
ford 98VT-7003-KA61
TF L 1 9D20 215011
Any ideas anyone.
many thanks.

where is reverse ? if reverse is next to 1st and it has a seperate bell housing its a type 9 , Mt75 has a built in bellhousing and reverse is below 5th.
You used to get MT75 specific gear oil from ford? burton power recomend ATF which is what i allways used without issue ?

[quote="bortaf"] Mt75 has a built in bellhousing and reverse is below 5th.

Yep it's an MT75 then. Cheers for clearing that up bortaf, and so promptly too.
Can't say enough how great this site is.
Many thanks Arran
