Rear wheel hub torque

HI all, I've read every post on this forum about torque specs for the rear hub bolts and I'm still not 100% confident. So just wanted to check the following is what everyone else would do...

Mk3 1988 twin rear wheel.

I'm going to tighten the inner bolt (65mm in my case) until it's tight and there's no play in the wheel, then back it off until the wheel has the very slightest play. Then pop the lock washer on, then then outer bolt tight until the play is taken up. Then fold two edges of the lock washer over so the bolts can't move.

Does that sound right? I'd rather not mess this up.

We allways tighten them up tight with a 18 inch swing bar then back them off one flat of the nut witch gave a slight play about 2 to 5 thousands of an inch the only axle we would use a specific torque would be the ones that have a spacer tube or a shoulder on the inside of the two bearings like the mk6 Dana axle .

i used to do the inner nut to 55ibft and outer nut tight, if you over tighten it can break the tab on the the lock washer

I do just like you said, do the inner up until the wheel is tight then back off until wheel is free then do the locknut up tight.

Thank you for the tips - I am going to attempt this and will report back. Can't get drums off so hub coming off to allow access to shoes!
