Diff ratios

Postby V6transit_au » Fri Nov 18, 2022 6:54 am

I have a 1997 Smilie LWB and curious to know what the stand diff ratio would be.
Is it marked on the diff?
Can the ratio be altered and if so what would be the best ratio for highway economy?

It is currently being converted into a campervan.
Is fitted with a 3.8litre Buick V6 and is auto.
I am not interested in breaking any speed records but would like to sit under the 100/110 kilometres speed limits ((90-95 is good) and get good fuel economy without taking off from the lights like a 10 ton tractor.

Good start would be the compliance plate for what's fitted unless of course its been changed. Is it a 5 stud wheel or 6 stud?

If you're lucky there's a tag attached to one of the bolts on the diff cover. If you have this it has the ratio written on. What was the original engine and body type? That will help you identify it

The diff ratio should be stamped on the VIN plate in box 7
