Indicator Clicker Too Quiet

Postby Lester_Chester » Sat Nov 19, 2022 3:25 pm

Hi I have a 1999 Transit minibus. I can't hear the indicators clicking when I am driving and consequently sometimes forget I am still indicating after taking a corner. Is there a way of solving this? Many thanks

Worn out stalk not auto cancelling.

Once your stalk is worn it's best to get it seen to

You can DIY or pay a professional.

So it should auto cancel? I assumed it predated that... Is that a reasonably easy thing to replace?

Yes it should, I had to replace the stalk on my 1997 for the same reason. Easy job, only took about 20 minutes, start to finish. I'm not sure how much a stalk will be these days, but I paid about forty quid.

While you're doing it, you need to check that the "pip" on the column that flips the stalk off is still there and in good condition.

I’ve changed three stalks on mine and the cam on the column over the time I’ve owned mine and I’ve never been able to get it to self cancel, I’ve just learned to do it manually, it’s very rare I forget

Could you describe this please so I can check before I replace? Thanks

I've not had a worn stalk, but I have had one where someone had done a terrible job of doingthe wheel alignment... instead of making sure the steering wheel was straight and therefore stopping the auto-cancel working in the right place they ripped the pip out so no auto-cancel at all.

Take the steering wheel off and you should see the plastic ring with pip just like in the pic Brian posted above.
