Mk3 Draglink

Postby Mislaid » Wed Nov 30, 2022 5:16 pm

Haynes suggests to start with a length of 455mm...is this correct?
To my eye there doesn't look like there is enough thread engagement

When I’ve fitted a new drag link or track rod I’ve set then the same as the one I’ve removed as a first fit usually it’s spot on when you fit it with the van jacked up check that you can turn the steering wheel from lock to lock checking that I hits the lock stops in both locks and the drag link doesn’t catch on anything .the steering box has more travel then the steering going from lock to lock .with the steering wheel being splined on a Mk 3 you can adjust it to get it level again if it is out of sync.if you change a track rod you will have to track the van up again just to make sure it’s not going to scrub the tyres

Unfortunately the starting point couldn't be trusted, ends screwed right on and a wrong spec end too.

This is first port of call, will be checking everything else in due course.

First mk3 looked at in easily 15yr....

In that case I’d count the turns lock to lock set it in the middle with the drop arm strait down and with the wheels in the straight ahead position fit the drag link trying not to move the drop arm if you have the wheels on the ground.
