2.5di injection pump bracket?

Postby gwynfe » Sat Dec 31, 2022 1:31 pm

I recently had no 3 injector pipe shear (a perfect break ) just maybe one of those things, but I have noticed occasionally quite a vibration through the accelerator pedal.
I have checked to see if there is any play in the pump but it is solid but what i did notice, there is no rear bracket attaching the pump to the block like on my earlier models (96 and 97)
The vehicle is a 1999 190 2.5di (4HB)
Should the pump have a bracket or did the later Bosch pump do away with this?
Any info would be much appreciated.

yes it should have a bracket, be careful it can break injector pipes as you mention but also crack the engine front plate or sheer the bolts clamping the injection pump together

Ah thanks for the prompt reply.
What i cannot understand is, now looking at the back of the pump there does not seem to be any provision for attaching a bracket.
Whereas on my older vans there is (see attached photos) This is what prompted me into thinking the newer pump did not have a bracket attached to the block (from 98)
I will post a photo of the pump later.
but yes I am sure the lack of a bracket contributed to the sheared injector pipe and also vibration through the accelerator pedal. That said I must have done 20000 miles with it like this.

As you can see from the photo there is no provision to attach a bracket to the pump, or is it missing something?

Just found the same pump as I have on my van (ebay)
This also does not have any provision for a bracket so maybe the later pumps did not have a block to pump bracket

The bolts that hold the bracket to the rear of the pump are missing, or sheared off as v184 said, I'm surprised the distribution head isn't leaking.

and you may find the 2 bolts in the engine block have sheared off which was probably the start of the problem

Ah thanks ever so much for the info.
Annoyingly I only had the engine out a month ago, but did not notice anything untoward.
I will get the pump off tomorrow and have a good look.
Hopefully I have just caught it before any major damage, looks like a recon pump will be over £1000 otherwise.
Cheers guys, your replies are so much appreciated.

from memory the later pumps had a protective cover for the dds module/immobilizer which also doubled up as the support bracket this you swapped from your pump when changing ? hence it doesnt show on the picture your quoting

Yes looks like it should have a plate attached like the one in the photo.
Any idea where I can find just the plate?
