MK5 smiley

Postby banger276 » Sun Jan 15, 2023 2:54 pm

Hi I have a MK5 smiley recovery truck...
Before Christmas I was driving home when all of a sudden it slammed itself out of gear and the engine died

On trying to start it again all it does is a single click it will not turn over or start up it just clicks

Any ideas please?

Cam belt looks okay and it's stiff as f*** when do by hand...if seized what could cause that?

With it slamming out of gear I’d be looking at the gearbox maybe something had broken inside or even ansnapped crankshaft not on a DI but have had York 2.4 snap on a genuine Ford exchange engine

The cambelt may 'look' Ok, but they don't usually shred themselves on this engine. What happens is that they strip the teeth where they fit around the bottom pulley wheel, so the pulley rotates, but not the belt.

Worth double checking :?:
