Mk5 2.0L Petrol MT75 Gearbox Noise

Postby Peter Clayton » Thu Nov 16, 2023 11:01 am

3rd query in 2 weeks...previous queries answered. Yey!

Whilst driving as normal, and I come off the accelerator, in 2nd or 3rd gear, there is a humming/whirring noise coming from the gearbox (I'm guessing). If you push the gear stick forward it eases a smidge, but is still there. Trying to describe the noise is something like a "vum vum vum". Once I flip it into neutral it goes. No noise whilst accelerating.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Cheers Peter.

Have you checked the oil level in the gearbox?

Is it the right oil in the gearbox?

Checked and replaced gearbox oil as recommended in a previous post. The noise was there prior to oil change.

What is the rear flange? Excuse my doofusness

Rear flange is where the propshaft mounts

If its loose though, the speedo normally does weird things
