Smiley high cube bare shell weight.

Postby twin wheel camper » Sun Jan 21, 2024 12:51 am

Does anyone know the weight of a 1998 high cube (fibreglass roof extended body) so a proper high cube.
I want to get a rollover jig made for my van and just need to know what anyone estimates the weight to be with everything removed, no drivetrain, all interior out and all doors removed to as bare a shell as is possible  :P
What would you guess it would weight? Can’t see it being much over 1000 kgs?? Anyone weight a stripped highcube in and can tell me what it weighed?
My van is super rare being a 190 twin rear wheel high cube and I really want to spend whatever money it takes to save it for many years to come…….
It’s getting very rusty now but the chassis is really strong and most of the underside is solid but it needs to be stripped back and saved and i want to spend the next whatever number of years making it the very best mk5 there is :P

I'd like to see that upside down on a spit !!
Are you thinking one of these

or one like this?

Yea the top one is the what I am looking into,
It would obviously only tip it on its side and not upside down
You can buy them and some say they will hold up to 1400kgs but I don’t know about that!!!!!!
My concern is getting the balance right because the van shell is so much taller than a car and would be fun getting it to swivel safely
But sure it will be a bit of fun if nothing else!!
Might talk to a few men that I know and see if they have any ideas or built anything similar themselves.

I would imagine the the centre of balance for a high top on a spit would be too high to be practical?

The other type would be safer too, this is the one Luke made

Yea I’ve seen that type but I still think that it’s doable to make the “spit type” :P
If I do I’ll make sure it way over engineered :!:
It’s only say 1200 kgs maximum so should be fine as long as I can work out the middle to balance it out……
I’ve also a 1993 granada mk3 2.9i 4x4 that id also like to do the same with in the next few years so spending money on it wont bother me even if it’s £1000+
Its only money and you can’t take it with you……
