The left turn signal no longer works.

Postby Colibri » Sat Jul 13, 2024 8:58 pm

Hello Transit driver,

We drive a MK4 (Ford Nugget, '96, 2.5 TD, 63 kW).

My other problem: The left turn signal no longer works. And I'm absolutely clueless:

• When the hazard lights are activated, all the lights work - including all the lights on the left side, which are not currently lit when the left turn signal is activated.
• When the hazard lights are activated, all the turn signals light up, including the left ones. However, strangely enough, the symbol in the cockpit is also flashing, which should only light up if I had a trailer or a bike rack with lights connected to the light circuit, which is not the case. The plug on the trailer hitch appears to be clean and intact.
• The turn signal relay in the fuse box at the front near the driver is faultless. Even a new turn signal relay didn't help:
o when you turn right, the relay clicks acoustically at a normal frequency and all the turn signals on the right light up.
o When the hazard lights are on, the relay clicks acoustically at a normal frequency and all indicators (including the left ones) light up.
o When you turn left, the relay clicks acoustically at too fast a frequency and the left lights do not flash.
• I visually checked all the installed fuses: the fuse elements are intact.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause could be?

Thank you in advance for your help, Carsten

P.S. If my English is slightly awkward, sorry for that. I`m not mother tongue.

The left indicator is working again. Thanks for your tips!
I dismantled the indicator lever, cleaned it and sprayed all the contacts with "Wet Protect". All the other contacts and plugs on the steering column as well. At first, without the desired effect. Then I treated all the contacts and fuses in the fuse box on the left under the steering wheel and the contacts on the trailer hitch with "Wet Protect". Also without the desired effect. Finally, I sprayed the cable contacts for the left side indicator and left indicator in the engine compartment with "Wet Protect". And lo and behold, the left indicator is now working again. Since I did everything pretty quickly one after the other with short interim tests, I don't know for sure whether it was just the latter spraying of the cable contacts of the left indicator or all of the measures together. But probably it was just the cable contacts.
